On March 13th 2007, Housing Preservation Project's Board of Directors approved the
addition of two national Board Members,
Mr. Michael Bodaken and
Professor john a. powell.
Mr. Bodaken is the
President of the
National Housing Trust in Washington, D.C. The National Housing Trust, the only national nonprofit organization engaged in housing preservation through a combination of real estate development, lending, and public policy endeavors. The Trust's affiliated owner/developer, NHT-Enterprise, raises the capital necessary to buy and renovate affordable apartments that are at risk of being converted to market rate or that are deteriorating. The Trust's CDFI lender, NHTCDF, provides loans to other nonprofits seeking to preserve existing housing. Among other activities, Mr. Bodaken leads the National Preservation Working Group, a coalition of groups (including HPP) advocating for stronger preservation policies on the federal level.
Professor
powell is the Executive Director of the
Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity and he holds the Gregory H. Williams Chair in Civil Rights & Civil Liberties at Ohio State University’s Michael E. Moritz College of Law in Columbus, OH. Professor powell is an internationally recognized authority in the areas of civil rights and civil liberties and a wide range of issues including race, structural racism, ethnicity, housing, poverty and democracy. Previously, he founded and directed the Institute on Race and Poverty at the University of Minnesota. He is one of the co‐founders of the Poverty & Race Research Action Council and serves on the board of several national organizations. Professor powell has taught at numerous law schools including Harvard and Columbia University.
